Greece's Marketing Week held its inaugural influencer marketing conference in May, 2021. The organisers asked me to provide the opening keynote presentation setting the scene for the day by providing a briefing on the rapid growth of the influencer marketing industry.

Global Influencer Marketing Show

I asked back to host the opening day of April's Influencer Marketing Show and interview industry leaders such as Facebook's head of branded content, MediaCom's head of influence and Gymshark's global partnership director. The day event ended with my piece-to-camera wrap-up of the day's highlights.

Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland

The Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland asked me to provide the keynote session for their event dedicated to influencer marketing in 2021 and beyond. Other speakers at the event included: Louise McSharry, RTE 2FM presenter, who moderated the discussion; Darren Kennedy, TV Presenter and Entrepreneur, discussed his experience as an influencer in Ireland; Dael WoodDentsu, gave an overview of influencer marketing research results commissioned by ASAI; Orla Twomey, CEO of the ASAI, discussed the organisation’s ongoing work in the influencer marketing space and its updated Guidance Note on influencers; and Hayley Browning, Corporate Communications Manager with The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) provided an overview on consumer protection laws and misleading information.

Influencer Intelligence invited me to speak at their webinar devoted to measurement and evaluation of influencer marketing. With over 1,250 registrants in the UK and the US I was joined on the panel by Charlotte Williams of Seven Six agency and Jennifer Powell the US digital brand strategist.

Digital Families Symposium

This year's Digital Families Symposium 2021 was titled: 'Social media influencing. Express yourself and learn in a safe way. I gave a keynote lecture on the latest updates and guidance on the influencer industry. Other speakers at the symposium discussed digital resilience and safeguarding, digital parenting providing insights into how educators, schools, local authorities, and parents can address social media influencers' impact on children's and families' online activities and developing strategies to ensure the protection of the most vulnerable.

In this panel discussion I joined academics to provide an expert snapshot of how influencer marketing is developing. The event was chaired by Dr Zoetanya Sujon, London College of Communication, and I spoke alongside:  Dr Servil Yersiloglu and Professor Jonathon Hardy. Global Influencer Marketing Show

In 2020 the Influencer Marketing Show was held online across four days. I hosted the final day of the global conference. This involved asking each keynote speaker questions at the end of their session throughout the day. The hosting role also included a wrap-up segment recapping on the best parts of the four days. Finally I hosted an hour-long live magazine-style online TV show interviewing guests and talking about influencer marketing in 2021.

Narrative Summit, Cairo

I was flown to Egypt to deliver a keynote speech on influencer marketing as part of this year’s Narrative Summit in Cairo.  The essence of my speech was that influencer marketing can serve a higher calling than only 'selling stuff’. The channel can be utilised to build awareness and drive positive social change including in the pursuit of nation building. Other speakers at the event included the regional general managers at Coca-Cola and Vodaphone along with government ministers and officials.

I was asked to speak to the delegation about unconscious bias within influencer marketing and why accepting unconscious bias in influencer marketing is not just ethically wrong but is a lost opportunity for brands to engage with wider groups.

I was flown to Egypt to deliver a keynote speech on influencer marketing as part of this year’s Narrative Summit in Cairo.  The essence of my speech was that influencer marketing can serve a higher calling than only 'selling stuff’. The channel can be utilised to build awareness and drive positive social change including in the pursuit of nation building. Other speakers at the event included the regional general managers at Coca-Cola and Vodaphone along with government ministers and officials.
