Influencer Marketing Show

The Influencer Marketing Show returned to a physical event in London on 21 October. The show's organisers asked me to host one of the two stages for the day introducing each session, moderating the questions and answers and providing a plenary session for the day. The event was held at Billingsgate. The Influencer Marketing Trade Body was launched at the show.

Internationally renowned marketer and best-selling author, Mark Schaefer, invited me to speak at The Uprising - his 'virtual retreat' devoted to exploring and co-creating forward-thinking, actionable new ideas based on real-world business needs. I provided a keynote speech touching on six pivotal themes for the influencer marketing industry. The conference then split into smaller groups to discuss the themes before re-joining to articulate wider learnings.

The Festival of Marketing is a four-day conference dedicated to sharing best practice with marketing professionals. The Festival of Marketing organisers asked me to create and run a live masterclass devoted to measuring and evaluating influencer marketing.

PricewaterhouseCoopers, the a multinational professional services network of firms, operating as partnerships under the PwC brand is the second-largest professional services network in the world and is considered one of the Big Four accounting firms, along with Deloitte, EY and KPMG. I was asked by a PwC partner to provide a half-day workshop on the influencer marketing industry including its speed of growth and future opportunities.

The day event ended with my piece-to-camera wrap-up of the day's highlights.

Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland

The Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland asked me to provide the keynote session for their event dedicated to influencer marketing in 2021 and beyond. Other speakers at the event included: Louise McSharry, RTE 2FM presenter, who moderated the discussion; Darren Kennedy, TV Presenter and Entrepreneur, discussed his experience as an influencer in Ireland; Dael WoodDentsu, gave an overview of influencer marketing research results commissioned by ASAI; Orla Twomey, CEO of the ASAI, discussed the organisation’s ongoing work in the influencer marketing space and its updated Guidance Note on influencers; and Hayley Browning, Corporate Communications Manager with The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) provided an overview on consumer protection laws and misleading information.

This year's Digital Families Symposium 2021 was titled: 'Social media influencing. Express yourself and learn in a safe way. I gave a keynote lecture on the latest updates and guidance on the influencer industry. Other speakers at the symposium discussed digital resilience and safeguarding, digital parenting providing insights into how educators, schools, local authorities, and parents can address social media influencers' impact on children's and families' online activities and developing strategies to ensure the protection of the most vulnerable.

Global Influencer Marketing Show

In 2020 the Influencer Marketing Show was held online across four days. I hosted the final day of the global conference. This involved asking each keynote speaker questions at the end of their session throughout the day. The hosting role also included a wrap-up segment recapping on the best parts of the four days. Finally I hosted an hour-long live magazine-style online TV show interviewing guests and talking about influencer marketing in 2021.

I was flown to Egypt to deliver a keynote speech on influencer marketing as part of this year’s Narrative Summit in Cairo.  The essence of my speech was that influencer marketing can serve a higher calling than only 'selling stuff’. The channel can be utilised to build awareness and drive positive social change including in the pursuit of nation building. Other speakers at the event included the regional general managers at Coca-Cola and Vodaphone along with government ministers and officials.

I was asked to speak to the delegation about unconscious bias within influencer marketing and why accepting unconscious bias in influencer marketing is not just ethically wrong but is a lost opportunity for brands to engage with wider groups.
